• Do blinds or shutters cause condensation?

  No. Condensation happens when warm, moist air meets a cold surface, usually the glass. Blinds and shutters don’t create moisture or cause water to appear; they simply sit in front of the window where condensation forms naturally.

• Why am I getting more condensation since fitting blinds/shutters?

  You’re probably noticing it more because blinds or shutters make the window area darker or more enclosed. But the cause is still humidity, not the product. The moisture would be there even without them – they just make you more aware of it.

• My windows never used to sweat before - what’s changed?

  A few things might have changed without you realising:

  • More people in the home
  • Drying more washing indoors
  • New pets
  • New windows with tighter seals
  • Trickle vents closed
  • Recent decorating or plastering (which releases lots of moisture)

  Even small changes can increase humidity levels.

• Is condensation a sign my windows are faulty?

  Not usually. Normal condensation forms on the room-facing side of the glass and can be wiped off. Windows are only faulty if you see moisture between the panes, where you can’t reach it. That suggests the sealed unit has failed and needs repair or replacement.

• Will trickle vents really help?

  Yes. Trickle vents allow moist air to escape while keeping the window secure and insulated. Closing vents traps moisture, which increases condensation and can make rooms feel colder and damp.

• Why is condensation worse in the mornings?

  Overnight, we breathe out warm, moist air while windows become colder. Bedrooms are often the most humid rooms because doors are shut and airflow is limited.

• Do I need a dehumidifier?

  If indoor humidity is regularly above 60–65%, a dehumidifier is one of the easiest and quickest fixes. It also makes the air feel warmer, because dry air heats more efficiently than damp air.

• What humidity level should I aim for?
  • Ideal: 50–55%
  • Acceptable: 60%
  • Too high: 65%+ (you’ll almost definitely see condensation)
• Should I wipe the condensation every day?

  Yes. Wiping it prevents moisture from running down into frames and onto sills, which can cause mould or damage over time. A quick morning wipe makes a big long-term difference.

• Why is condensation worse in coastal areas like Poole?

  Coastal locations naturally have higher humidity. This higher baseline means indoor humidity rises much faster, especially in winter.

• Are shutters worse for condensation than blinds?

  Neither cause it. Shutters may hide condensation more until you open them, but they don’t create or worsen the issue.

• Could new windows cause condensation?

  Surprisingly, yes – but in a positive way. New windows are far more airtight, meaning less natural airflow. This can lead to higher indoor humidity unless trickle vents are kept open.

• When should I call a window specialist?

  Only if you see:

  • Moisture inside the double-glazing unit
  • Fogging between the panes
  • Water marks that can’t be wiped away

  These all indicate blown seals, which blinds/shutters have nothing to do with.

• Should I open my windows in winter?

  A 10–15 minute ‘air exchange’ can dramatically reduce humidity. Just a short burst of fresh air is enough – you don’t need to leave windows open for long.

• Will condensation damage my blinds or shutters?

  However, long-term damp environments can affect wooden shutters or fabric blinds over several years. Managing humidity protects both the window AND the shading product.
